Survey
Our survey aimed to explore what drives youth interest and engagement in ocean decision-making. Based on a series of workshop discussions to develop our research questions, we were particularly interested in exploring place-based factors and how these shape ocean connection amongst young people.
Our core research questions were:
1. How do young people learn about the ocean?
2. How do place-based factors shape young people's connection to the ocean? (rurality, accessibility to coast, proximity to ocean and land-based characteristics)
3. How interested are young people in engaging in ocean decision-making?
4. How aware are young people of ocean decision-making mechanisms and processes?
5. Have young people been previously engaged in ocean decision-making?
6. What predicts interest in wanting to engage in ocean decision-making?
7. What do young people need to engage in ocean decision-making?
Our survey is now closed, and we collected responses from 261 young people across Scotland and South Africa. Our findings are being co-authored with the co-research team and will be published soon!
